Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Services
It is the mission of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) to provide specialized quality patient care by furnishing properly prescribed prosthetic equipment, sensory aids and devices in the most economical and timely manner in accordance with authorizing laws, regulations and policies. PSAS serves as the pharmacy for assistive aids and as case manager for prosthetic equipment needs of the disabled veteran.
Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service provides for the replacement, support, or substitution of a deformed, weakened, missing or nonfunctional anatomical portion of the body. This includes but is not limited to aids for the blind; artificial limbs, terminal devices and stump socks; hearing aids, accessories and speech communication aids; home dialysis equipment and supplies; medical equipment and supplies; oxygen equipment and supplies; orthopedic braces and supports; orthopedic footwear and shoe modifications; power as well as manual wheelchairs and mobility aids; ocular prostheses; cosmetic restorations; ear inserts and optical supplies. PSAS is touched by virtually every clinical service within the medical center and is involved in veterans benefits through the VA Regional Office (VARO). PSAS receives prescriptions from both inpatient (in anticipation of discharge) and outpatient clinical disciplines, VA and contract nursing homes and Hospital Based Primary Care.
