Beneficiary Travel Mileage Reimbursement

Veterans should receive a check from the Department of Treasury within 3 weeks of filing a travel claim.

Friday, January 6, 2012

Beginning January 1, 2012, the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System Malcom Randall and Lake City VA Medical Centers (VAMCs) will implement a mail-out system to process beneficiary travel mileage reimbursement claims.

As of January 1, 2012, Veterans eligible for this benefit will be able to fill out a travel reimbursement form and place it in a drop box after checking out from their appointment.  Drop boxes will be located throughout the medical centers.  Veterans will no longer have to visit the VAMC travel department and wait in multiple lines.  Staff will collect the forms from the boxes multiple times during the day for processing.

Veterans will receive a check directly from the Department of Treasury through the mail within three weeks of filing a claim.  Treasury checks will be mailed to the address on record.  It is very important that we have both a mailing address and correct physical street address on file, as mileage cannot be calculated to a post office box.
