About the Program
The mental health services at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS) provide consultation, evaluation, and treatment for a variety of issues that can impact emotional well-being. We conduct research and training to ensure state-of-the-art treatment.
The VA's Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available to veterans in crisis.
Services Offered
Mental health services provided at NF/SGVHS include treatments for:
- depression, sadness, grief
- anxiety, worry, nervousness
- addictive behaviors
- relationship problems
- stress from medical problems and/or pain
- post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- emotional problems, such as managing anger
- vocational issues
- troublesome thoughts or ideas
- confused thinking
- aggressive or self-harming behaviors
- memory problems
We also provide outreach to homeless veterans.
Confidentiality
Mental health services are confidential. We will not talk to anyone about information you share unless you give written consent. Under federal law, a few exceptions to this rule exist. If you have questions, please ask your mental health consultant.
Suicide Prevention Lifeline
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline has been enhanced to provide a new service for veterans in crisis. Veterans will be connected immediately to VA suicide prevention and mental health service professionals by calling 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and pressing 1.

Psychiatry Service
Psychiatry Service provides evaluation, treatment and continuing care for patients who apply directly or are referred to our variety of programs because of mental, emotional behavioral illness or problems. Our services are patient focused and directed toward maximizing the patient's resources to obtain/maintain maximum health coping patterns. Psychiatry Service utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in the provision of services. Treatment may be offered on an individual, family or group basis, employing a variety of treatment techniques. Staff members from several disciplines may provide direct services to patients.
