Patient Education Centers

Our Patient Education Centers are staffed by experienced patient education librarians and library technicians. The centers contain a collection of easy-to-read health and wellness books, respected health education newsletters, videos and other materials.

The Patient Education Centers are located in the Medical Center Libraries.  The Gainesville VA Medical Center Library is located on the 4th floor (E-wing), Room 421.  The Lake City VA Medical Center Library is located on the first floor of the main hospital (between the Canteen and the Chapel), Room B120.

My HealtheVet

The My HealtheVet site provides veterans and their families excellent, reliable patient education information as well as the latest VA News. Information about veterans benefits and services is also available.

Upon registering with My HealtheVet, you will be able to —

  • refill prescriptions online
  • keep personal food and activity journals
  • monitor your personal health data, such as blood pressure and pain levels
  • maintain your own self-entered personal health record

VA Television Network

An on-demand education video system is available for all inpatient rooms and in some waiting areas. Ask the staff for further information on how to access the system.

The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System has strong affiliations with many of the universities and colleges in our service area. With a strong commitment to providing the highest quality care to veterans, our System places a high priority on education in all its forms, including training future care providers (in partnership with our affiliates), providing a wide variety of educational opportunities for employees, and promoting healthy behavior through the provision of patient education specific to our patients' health care needs. Employees of the System are encouraged to pursue continuing education and to develop new skills through training and coursework.
